I’ve joined ProCopywriters!

At long last, I have joined ProCopywriters – http://www.procopywriters.co.uk– the alliance of commercial writers!

Actually, I did this about six months ago, but have only just remembered in the last six minutes that I’d started writing a blog about it, so…

I must admit that I feel a little guilty that didn’t join this professional body sooner, given the fact that I’ve often dipped into the information freely available on the ProCopywriters website to help me out with any little irks I’ve had since becoming a professional freelance copywriter.

Joining ProCopywriters doesn’t give me any kind of accolade, or rank me as ‘better’ than any of my fellow copywriters. Neither does it allow me to claim that I’m the best in the industry, or in put me in receipt of any kind of gold standard kitemark.  I’d actually be wary of any organisation claiming they can do that for a creative industry, where anything produced is surely (and purely) subjective, in my opinion.

No, I’ve finally joined this alliance of commercial writers because even though I’ve built a solid reputation for my brand, and find myself almost fully booked with work some months in advance, it’s not lost on me that, as a freelancer, nothing is guaranteed, and so you need to take full advantage of the all the professional support and platforms that are out there for you as a professional operating in your industry.  This particular platform at ProCopywriters serves as an opportunity for me to gain access to professional advice and peer support, as well as a place to showcase who I am, what I do, and how I do it.

When you’re a freelancer, at times, you need all the support you can get.

I think membership cost me £60. As business costs go, that’s a low one!

There’s only one snag I’ve found with showcasing on this website, and that’s how people looking for available copywriters choose to use it. That’s not a fault of ProCopywriters though, and so instead I’ll talk about that in a future blog!

I’d be really keen to hear from fellow freelance copywriters about their experiences and affiliations, so please get in touch!
