None of my business

proofreading, business, professionalism, forgive

I’m outspoken. I stress out over seemingly little things. I have a short fuse.

Not the best dating profile in the world, perhaps, but all true statements about me.  Couple these wonderful personality traits with the fact that I have a copywriting business (www.agoodwriteup.com) and therefore by default I’m a perfectionist/geek/tyrant when it comes to language, and some of my blogs just write themselves.

Believe it or not, much as it winds me up, I can forgive the occasional mistake in advertising.  Whilst attention to detail in marketing should be everything, if you’re a fantastic tradesperson with a strong work ethic, fair pricing and you do a superb job on my project, I’ll forgive an error in spelling or grammar on the leaflet that came through my door to promote your services.  However, if the main focus of your business is something that fully focuses on appropriate language use, such as advertising, marketing, business or education, then your promotional literature needs to be absolutely spot on.

It only takes a quick glance at the image accompanying this blog to get the feel that something isn’t quite right.  Yep, you’ve spotted it – ‘buisnesses’.  It almost killed me to type it like that just now.

Business. It is literally the purpose of this business’s business.  Why don’t they know how to spell it?  Or worse, why don’t they care enough to proofread?

I contacted the company in question to highlight the issue and to suggest signing up to the services of a copywriter or proofreader (not necessarily even me), but they didn’t respond.

I guess it’s none of my business.
