Working onsite (and working out)!

Never let it be said that I don’t lunge myself into my work with my clients.

Recently, this was literally the case, as I met with my lovely client, Janine Noblett – Founder of The Yoga Place North in Chorley, Lancashire.

A popular project for me to be tasked with at agoodwriteup is to create written content for either a brand new business, or for an established business in want of a new website or marketing materials. Janine was an example of the latter, as she set out to re-brand her much-loved yoga studio with a great new look.

With the time needed to do the project justice and the location of the studio all factored in, it made sense for Janine to sign me up to working onsite with her in order to crack on with her project. In spending the day at the studio, I’d get a real feel for what her business does, how it works, and what the client or customer experience feels like on the other end of operations at The Yoga Place North.

My day started with my first ever full-on Iyengar yoga class. Janine welcomed me into the group and got straight into her instruction. No sooner had I begun stretching and posing amid a room full of regulars at this little hideaway in Adlington, was I darting to the back of the studio to make notes in my notebook.  By working onsite at the studio, and experiencing the product and service Janine offers for myself, I could really get an objective idea about how to best present her business, its benefits, and the people behind it all to her intended audience.

After the class, I chatted with staff and clients as they bobbed in and out of the studio, whilst I made notes on draft pages on my laptop. I observed, I asked questions, and I fielded ideas directly to Janine as the founder behind this booming business.

Usually, I would then spend the rest of the day working onsite to put everything together for the written project I’d been tasked with, so that I could then present a solid draft to the client in question. From there, my clients and I would review the work together, and I’d put the finishing touches on the piece before leaving for the day.  Obviously, depending on the size of the project or the amount of tasks requiring my skills, I would quote accordingly for how many days I’m needed on site.

Owing to reasons involving childcare for both Janine and I on that day, it was agreed that I was going to spend the afternoon completing the project at home after my informative and interactive morning at The Yoga Place North. It was something I felt comfortable with, because within minutes of meeting Janine for the first time a few weeks earlier, I knew she’d be easy to get hold of on the phone in order for us to progress quickly and without barriers to getting the project done.  Usually though, I like the whole ‘stay on site for the day’ thing, and love offering that as a service to any clients who wish to make use of me in a consultancy type role as well as a writer-y type one.

What I absolutely love most about working onsite with my clients, even more than getting to know them really well, is the fact that through the discussions that take place, my clients can gain ideas and confidence in what they can go on to write for themselves. I love it when they say, “oh actually I think I can write that bit myself”, or “I’ll add that in later on”.  It shows me that they have progressed in such a short space of time from, “I can’t write this myself, it’ll be awful/boring/complete nonsense…”

It’s always a great day working onsite this way with my clients, and my visit to The Yoga Place North was no exception. Even though I couldn’t walk the day after… cheers, Janine!

Anyway, I couldn’t finish this piece without some puns, so here goes:

If you’re stretched for time, getting me working onsite with you is a brilliantly efficient way for me to be your copywriter, trainer and consultant – see my previous blog about how I’m also a Chartered Manager here: http://agoodwriteup.com/copywriter-chartered-manager/

If you’re in a difficult position in terms of not standing out amongst your competitors, then at the very least call me up and I’ll write something for you from home.

And, if you’re in the balance about whether I could be the copywriter for you, just look out for Janine’s testimonial!
