A hypocrite’s advice on blogging

Today, I announce to anyone who may regularly visit my site, follow my work, or keep up with me on social media, that I like to promote blogging.  I’m also admitting to being a massive hypocrite.

Why? Because I am forever advising clients to get blogging – either by doing it themselves, or via the appointment of a wonderful copywriter (if anyone knows one?)  However, I haven’t blogged for agoodwriteup for a number of weeks now, so I’m not exactly following my own advice.

This scenario actually goes to prove a point, however.  Individuals and businesses tend not to blog for two reasons.  One, because it’s not in their skill set to carry out such as task.  Two, because it can be a time-consuming exercise that is purely based on their own work rather than that of the jobs they have on from clients.  How many of us actually get time to sit down and focus on our own stuff when we have existing clients we want to please and new clients we wish to attract?  Self-reflection, which I believe blogging is, is something that is often put to the bottom of the to-do list – if it even makes it onto it at all.

Despite being a hypocrite, I do have three pieces of advice to support the claim that blogging is important to your business:

  1. It keeps your content fresh, original and up to date in Google search rankings – great for SEO.
  2. It reminds your existing customers that you care about your brand.
  3. It shows your potential customers that you’re ahead of the competition.

Luckily, I work with a lot of people who agree with these principles, and to prove to you that I am indeed still busy blogging – and pretty much doing an okay job at it – please take a look at a few of the blogs I’ve written for other ventures over the past few weeks:

Some of these blog posts were written for clients, some were written for voluntary organisations that are close to my heart, and one was written as part of my dramatic entrance into a fantastic Social Media team that I’ve recently been invited to become a part of – but more of that in next week’s blog!

If any of what I’ve said in this blog rings true for you and you know you should be blogging, get on the phone to me and sign me up to do it for you. I’ve already proved that my clients are my priority, and hopefully, the four snapshots I’ve given you from my portfolio demonstrate that I’m pretty good at writing, too.
