What is a copywriter? (asked nobody, ever)

Depending on who you ask…
There are a lot of variances, descriptions, and factors to take into account when answering this common Google search or awkward networking introduction question. There are also a lot of mistakes, misconceptions, and utter bollocks to be mindful of, too.
Allow me in my profession to throw just a few of those ‘answers’ at you, and feel free to contact me with any I’m missing.
A copywriter is a wordsmith, a word wrangler, and a word wizard.
A copywriter is a word nerd. I think that’s a compliment.
A copywriter is a statement stunner, a page pleaser, and a document devil.
A copywriter makes products, people, and projects present perfectly on paper, and makes services, staff, and stuff sound super on stage and screen.
A copywriter makes sales. Yep, that’s the end of the sentence. To clarify, they’re going to be the professional person who makes sure your services sell and your products push themselves into people’s shopping carts.
A copywriter is a representative of the Punctuation Police and a fully paid-up member of the Grammar Nazi party. At some point I’ll be told to remove that reference. Don’t be ‘that guy’ who tells me to do it.
A copywriter is someone who copyrights stuff*, someone who copies other people’s writing**, and someone whose job can easily be done by Chat GPT.***
*not in any way true
**also not-at-all true.
***nope, definitely not true either.
A copywriter has the authority and technical knowledge to grasp the rules, and holds the creative spark and confidence required to break them.
A copywriter can make you feel, think, and do things because of words, and they’ll be the best investment you’ll make in your business as a result.
Especially the one who wrote this blog.
Want her to write for you and show you what a truly great writer of this copy stuff can do?
Apologies for talking about myself in the third person.
Nobody was more upset about that than Jo was.
